Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant - Onsite SEN Unit (Secondary)
Location: SEN School, Lewisham, South East London
Contract Type: Full-time | Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2025 (or ASAP)
About the Role:
A specialist SEN secondary school in Lewisham is seeking a caring and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2025. The school supports students aged 11-19 with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), autism, and complex physical and medical needs.
You will be based in one of the school's structured onsite SEN units, providing daily support for pupils who require personal care, wheelchair assistance, and specialist communication approaches.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 and group support within the school's SEN unit
Assist pupils with personal care, including toileting and changing
Support pupils with mobility, including hoisting, transfers, and wheelchair guidance
Help deliver sensory-based and structured learning activities
Work closely with class teachers, therapists, and the wider SEN team
Encourage pupil engagement, communication, and independence
Requirements:
Experience working with students with PMLD, SLD, or physical disabilities
Confidence in providing personal care and physical support
Manual handling/hoist training (or willingness to be trained)
A calm, compassionate, and proactive approach
Enhanced DBS or willingness to obtain one
