Job description

Role-

Using high level of technical knowledge, expertise in construction and leadership skills, make a significant contribution to the building safety, reduction in carbon emission from buildings and accessibility of buildings in the borough. Ensure these objectives are delivered though competitive and multi-skilled professional team which can effectively compete with the private sector service providers.

Engage and work with Building Safety Regulator, Fire Service, other agencies and other local authorities to ensure structural and fire safety requirements of high-risk residential buildings are scrutinised thoroughly to ensure safety of occupants.

Deliver an effective service to respond to dangerous structures on a 24/7 basis. Liaise with H&F Silver/Gold Command, Emergency Services and other external agencies to ensure public safety.

Deputise for Head of Building Control when required.

Qualifications & experience-

Essential: RICS/ICE/IStructE accredited degree (or equivalent)

Membership of RICS (Building Control) or ICE or IStructE.

LABC Level 6 (Fire Safety) (or equivalent)

Evidence of significant relevant Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Desirable: Management qualification (eg Certificate, Diploma or MBA)

Comprehensive understanding of current issues & developments affecting Building Regulations, Building Safety & local government in England.

Comprehensive understanding and detailed knowledge of Building Act 1984, Building Regulation 2010 (as amended), London Building Acts (Amendment) Act 1939, Building (Local Authority Charges) Regulations 2010, Building (Approved Inspectors, etc.) Regulations 2010 and Safety of Sports Grounds legislation.

Comprehensive understanding of Approved Documents and supporting guidance.

Comprehensive understanding of central government policy issues.

Comprehensive understanding of building control legislation & good understanding of related legislation including local government legislation.

Understanding of direction of travel on Building Safety Bill and its potential effects on public sector building control service.

High level of political awareness & comprehensive knowledge of the operation of local government.
