Job description

SEN (MLD) Teacher - Waltham Forest

I am currently working with a SEN school in Waltham Forest who is looking for a Teacher with experience of support students with Moderate Learning Difficulties.

They are seeking to appoint an SEN teacher who is able to demonstrate both excellent classroom practice and an up-to-date understanding of the latest developments in special needs best practise. The class will be a mixed-ability group of 9 pupils who have Moderate Learning difficulties, in doing this you will be supported by 3 full time specialist SEN Teaching Assistants.

As with any SEN teaching position there will be elements of behaviour management, versatile teaching and metacognition involved.

Most of the pupils in the school have a diagnosis of Autism. The school has worked hard to make the school an ASD friendly environment and you can see the results as pupils find the school a low stress environment which in turn reduces challenging behaviour. The school uses a structured teaching approach (TEACCH) throughout the school.

The successful applicant will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to deliver fun, creative, interesting lessons designed to increase stimulate independent thought, interaction and sensory engagement amongst pupils.

You will not need to hold a QTS (however this is preferred) and will have a sound basic understanding of different SEN needs.
