Job description

Remedy Education are working exclusively with a two form entry Primary School in Hackney who are looking for an ambitious Learning Mentor to join their team from September. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working with children with SEN and disabilities along with a commitment to inclusion.


This primary school is a very welcoming place with a lively emphasis on music and the creative arts.

Our client is seeking a Learning Mentor who is:


Able to demonstrate outstanding pastoral practice
Able to create a positive and creative learning environment

Confident in your knowledge and understanding of how children learn

Able to motivate, inspire and lead children, staff and parents to fulfil their potential
Able to work as part of a team to plan, teach and assess effectively for the next steps in children's learning
Able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to developing and maintaining close links with the whole community

Main Responsibilities

*To participate in the comprehensive assessment of pupils to determine those in need of particular help. This includes devising and administering an in-school referral system. This system will be used to identify and prioritise pupils in need of support.


*Identification of those pupils who need extra help to overcome barriers to learning inside and outside school.


*In liaison with teaching staff, develop and implement individual action plans for targeted pupils who need particular support.


*To develop a 1:1 relationships with pupils requiring particular support with the aim if addressing points defined in the action plan and engaging them with activities and opportunities.


*To develop small group mentoring work with groups of pupils according to their need. This work to be planned and progress assessed. There will also need to be a clear exit strategy for the children.


*Undertake home- school liaison activities, including home visits, in order to keep parents, carers informed and to secure positive family support and involvement and provide EHPS.


*Monitor the implementation of all plans and provide feedback to the pupils of progress and achievement.


*Enable the development of partnerships with local businesses and other organisations to set up support resources and initiatives within school that will address barriers to learning.


*Develop study support activities, such as homework clubs, during and outside of school hours where appropriate.

*To monitor and evaluate pupil's responses and progress against action plans through observation and planned recording.


*To provide support, strategies and advice to enable pupils to make positive choices about their own learning and behaviour.


*To challenge and motivate pupils, promoting and reinforcing self esteem


*To provide feedback to pupils relating to progress achievement, behaviours and attendance
