Key Accountabilities

  • The post holder reports to the Director of Policy and Communications.
  • The post holder will be expected to work with senior officers across the organisation, notably within the Chief Executive's Office and service areas
  • The post holder will be expected to work with Members and alongside the Mayor's Office and associated officers.
  • To be the professional advisor for Member-level decision making in relation to Cabinet, full Council, and other key decision making bodies to ensure that all decisions are taken in accordance with all legal and constitutional requirements.
  • Working with the Monitoring Officer, to advise Members and officers on legal and constitutional requirements of the decision making process.
  • To pro-actively develop the forward plan of all key council committees and to plan these so that key decisions are made at the right time and that policy areas are brought together so that decisions are not taken in isolation but in a joined up fashion.
  • To ensure that agendas and papers are all planned and agreed well in advance with the Mayor, relevant lead members and relevant Directors and service heads.
  • To project manage the production of papers so that they are produced in a timely fashion and to support certain committee and council meetings when required.
  • To be responsible for quality control on all published papers and ensuring that they follow the agreed template, are short and concise, are grammatical and plain English and reflect wider policy and communication needs.
  • To be robust and challenge authors and Directors where quality falls below expectations.
