Asbestos Consultant

South London

£300 pd

The post holder will act as lead officer on all matters relating to the finding, recording and handling of asbestos.

The post holder will advise senior management and external agencies/contractors on Health and Safety legislation related to asbestos in the Housing Property Service, demonstrating the technical and specialist ability to resolve all asbestos related matters innovatively whilst maintaining the strongest sense of empathy for the residents.

Provide specialist advice to professional teams for projects, including multi-contract projects, to ensure compliance with the agreed project design, technical, financial, legal and programme requirements.

To maintain, expand, monitor and improve the Council's asbestos database of information on the presence of asbestos in Council premises leading to a continually evolving and up-to-date working document.

To demonstrate knowledge of the legislation relating to asbestos in general, and in buildings in particular. To have successfully passed an accredited course in the identification and testing of asbestos.

To demonstrate practical ability to carry out type 1,2, &3 asbestos surveys in accordance with MDHS 100, issued by the Health and Safety Executive. To liaise directly with clients, treating them with civility and understanding of their sensitivity to the proposed work.

Contribute to the development and review of asbestos policies and procedures and make recommendations regarding the setting of working standards.

To ensure own professional and technical asbestos knowledge is up-to-date. To advise the Principal Specialist Engineer on own CPD requirements, and of any advice, resources and actions required to maintain project aims and objectives.

To be flexible in acting as a member of a project team from within own or another Team.

To be responsible to the Principal Specialist Engineer for setting own budget and programme parameters ensuring self and team understand and agree to effectively maintain budget and programme objectives.

To be responsible for monitoring own and project team's compliance with agreed budget and programme parameters; liaising with the Principal Specialist Engineer and Maintenance Teams Manager when necessary for advice and guidance to ensure self and team understand and effectively maintain said budget and programme objectives.
