At South Gloucestershire Youth Justice Service, they are committed to creating a child-centred approach to youth justice, grounded in the principles of Child First. Engagement is at the core of this approach, ensuring that children are actively involved in and committed to the decisions and outcomes throughout their journey in the youth justice system

South Gloucestershire Youth Justice Service (SGYJS) is a high performing service. In 2020 it was rated by HMIP as outstanding and has recently been inspected under the new framework (with rating yet to be announced).

SGYJS has maintained a low rate of first-time entrants and has a focus on diversion and prevention and keeping children out of the formal YJS when appropriate.

Core experience / qualifications:

Experience and knowledge of working in Youth justice services; using youth justice case management systems (e.g. Childview) and of managing and supervising youth justice staff to a high standard. Desirable for a professional qualification (social work, probation) otherwise extensive management experience in the field and a qualification of degree level is required.

High-level short-term objectives:

To enable and provide additional management capacity in managing the day-to-day operational service delivery.

To support the staff to deliver high quality work with children, providing high quality supervision and leadership.

Challenges:

To focus on the recommendations from the recent YJ inspection and the action plan developed from this for the service.

As a service to improve work with victims, to ensure we are offering a personalised and individualised service to all victims.

To continue to develop the YJ services' work around participation (rated as good practice in recent inspection).
