Job description
Our client, Shropshire Council, is looking for a Supervising Social Worker to join their team
Brief Duties / Key Responsibilities
1. Supporting and Supervising Kinship Foster Carers
- Provide regular supervision, guidance, and emotional support to foster carers.
- Help carers offer safe, stable, and therapeutic care to children, with a trauma informed approach
- Empower carers to meet the needs of the children placed with them, promoting positive development and stability.
- Ensuring carers are supported to address any barriers to training and development in their fostering role
Ensuring High-Quality Placements & Safe Care
The Shropshire fostering statement-of-purpose April 2025 outlines the broader aims of the service, which shape the SSW role:
- Promote safe, secure, and nurturing placements where children's needs, identity, and wellbeing are prioritised.
- Ensure that children are listened to, their wishes/feelings are considered, and that they are supported to thrive in education, health, and emotional development.
- Contribute to Shropshire's ambition to deliver high quality, aspirational foster care.
- Monitoring, Visiting & Oversight
Ensuring regular and frequent visits from their social workers, this includes:
- Visiting carers regularly.
- Providing support to ensure carers can grow and develop in their role and children receive safe care arrangements
- Monitoring the home environment and child's progress.
- Ensuring fostering households remain compliant with regulations and standards.
Working Within Regulatory and Professional Frameworks
- Clear understanding of legislation and good practice guidance
- Knowledge of Fostering Regulations, National Minimum Standards (NMS), and statutory duties.
- Ability to ensure compliance, quality assurance, and safeguarding across childrens care arrangements.
- Multi agency Collaboration & Case Coordination
- Ensuring stability of fostering arrangement through the right support at the right time
- Liaising with adoption teams, Independent Fostering Agencies (IFAs), education, CAMHS, and other partners when overseeing complex care arrangements.
- Helping manage capacity pressures and supporting transitions across teams.
- Contributing to Service Development & Innovation
- Ensuring work completed meets regulatory requirements and good practice standards
- Supporting initiatives including engagement with events and contributing to requests from Marketing Manager
- Contributing fostering service improvements
