Job description

Our client Solihull Council is looking for a Senior Practitioner to join their Children's and Family services team.

Requirements;

* Been qualified 1 year and over
* Experience of writing assessments
* Experience of working on a duty team/initial assessment team/MASH or experience of CIN

This is a family support service post, our workers are on duty one day per week. The average case load is 19.5 children/ 11 families for a full time perm worker. This includes a mixture of Child in need long term cases, social work assessments and section 47 enquiries.

The Family Support Service is a team of 22 social workers, 32 support workers and 10 managers. We are based in Chelmsley wood in the North of Solihull. Our social workers have caseloads of 10 families (full time equivalent), which usually equates to 20 children, but can occasionally be more. We have currently 1 social worker with more than ten families allocated. Our social workers pick up work from then MASH team, normally in the form of a child and family assessment (S17), a section 47 enquiry, private law or specialist assessments. Our workers complete this initial assessment, and progress cases to LPM, pre-proceedings, court, LAC review or Child Protection Conference. The case will transfer to the child protection and court team if needed. It is expected that social workers joining the family support service will have a mixed case load of initial assessments and long term child in need work. Early help intervention is also managed within the team, and we have experienced support workers who are available to co-work complex work. We have a strong, stable management group and who line manage no more than 6 social workers each. Which means that supervision is regular and managers are readily available to offer support. Managers are office based, and all temp workers will be expected to be office based for a minimum of two weeks from joining us. After that, workers are able to work from home or the office depending what works for them. Applicants will be expected to visit families with full PPE. Applicants must be care drivers. 20/22 of our social workers are permanent and this recruitment is to cover 12 month maternity cover. 10/10 of our managers are permanent. 32/32 of our support workers are permanent. We are a very large but stable team with excellent case load averages and strong management support. Please only apply if you have experience in assessment and long term work.
