Job description
SEN Support Worker - Newham East London- 15 Horus per week - 12-3pm Monday to Friday
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Support Worker to provide support to a student with severe Special Educational Needs (SEN). The role focuses on developing and reinforcing life skills, independence, and social engagement. The student already has carers in place; therefore, this role is not personal care-based, but instead complements existing care provision by supporting learning, communication, and daily living skills.
You will work closely with another member of staff who will provide tutoring to the student, you will be on hand as a support worker.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consistent support tailored to the student's individual needs, abilities, and interests
- Support the development of life skills, such as:
- Communication and social interaction
- Emotional regulation and coping strategies
- Daily routines and independence skills
- Community awareness and appropriate behaviour
- Encourage engagement in structured and meaningful activities
- Support the student in following routines and transitions throughout sessions
- Work collaboratively with carers, teachers, therapists, and other professionals to ensure a consistent approach
- Observe, record, and report progress, challenges, and achievements
- Promote a safe, calm, and positive environment at all times
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and SEN best practice guidelines
Essential needs for the role:
- SEN-related qualifications or training
- Experience supporting life skills or independence programmes
- Knowledge of conditions such as autism, learning disabilities, or communication needs
- Experience working alongside carers or multidisciplinary teams
