Job description

Remedy Education is working closely with a Special School in Greenwich for pupils aged 11-19 years who have moderate to severe learning difficulties as a primary need or as a dual diagnosis to their medical or physical needs.

This wonderful and loving Special School are seeking a dedicated and pro-active Learning Support Assistant to join the team around the February half-term. The School cater for pupils with PMLD and other complex cognitive difficulties, from EYFS up to KS5, so they require Learning Support Assistants who are comfortable across age rages.

  • Special Needs Learning Support Assistant - PMLD
  • Experience of ASC, SLD or PMLD welcomed
  • Happy to provide support with Personal Care and Manual Handling
  • Willing to learn the techniques implemented throughout the school day

Many of the pupils have complex learning and medical needs, most are wheelchair bound and need support with Speech and Language techniques including, Makaton and PECS.

A background in social care or nursing and some school based TA experience will be a huge advantage as you will be expected to support pupils with Hoisting, Manual Handling and Personal Care (feeding, changing and toileting).

The personal care duties may include -

  • PEG feeding
  • Changing the students
  • Feeding orally
  • Helping students to brush their teeth

To be eligible to apply for this position, you will need to be available to start after the February Half-Term and be able to commit to working 9am - 4pm, 5 days per week in the South East London area.

You must have a good command of numeracy and literacy, as this is especially important when supporting pupils with limited communication skills.

Ideally, You will have the following experience -

  • PMLD experience
  • LSA or care experience
  • SEND experience
  • Experience in or willing to do personal care and manual handling

As a standard requirement we will require all staff members working with Remedy to have a Right To Work, an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS (on the Update Service) and a minimum of 2 Graded References. We will be happy to support you through the process of obtaining these to complete your vetting and get you into work as soon as possible!
