Job Title: SEN Behaviour Mentor (Positive Handling & De-escalation)
Location: Tower Hamlets, East London
Job Type: Full-Time, Long Term
About the Role
Remedy is recruiting a dedicated SEN Behaviour Mentor to support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in a secondary school in East London. This full-time, long-term role is ideal for an experienced Behaviour Mentor who is confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour, including emotional regulation, autism, ADHD, and SEMH needs.
Job Overview
As an SEN Behaviour Mentor, you will work closely with students who require targeted behavioural and emotional support to access learning safely. You will use positive behaviour strategies, de-escalation techniques, and, where necessary, approved restraint/positive handling methods in line with school policies and training.
You will collaborate with teaching staff, SENCOs, and parents to ensure students are supported consistently and effectively.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide 1:1 and small-group support for students with SEN and challenging behaviour
* Implement positive behaviour support plans and risk assessments
* Use de-escalation strategies to manage distressed or dysregulated behaviour
* Apply approved restraint/positive handling techniques when required, following training and safeguarding procedures
* Support students in developing emotional regulation and coping strategies
* Work closely with teachers to support engagement, attendance, and progress
* Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals where appropriate
* Record and report behaviour incidents accurately and professionally
* Contribute to whole-school behaviour and safeguarding strategies
Requirements
* Experience working with SEN students, particularly those with SEMH, ASD, ADHD, or challenging behaviour
* Previous experience as a Behaviour Mentor, SEN TA, or similar role
* Training in positive handling / restraint (Team Teach, MAPA, or similar) - preferred
* Strong behaviour management and communication skills
* Calm, patient, resilient, and emotionally intelligent approach
* Ability to build trusting, professional relationships with young people
