Do you have experience working in a busy SEN department, looking for an exciting new role? Are you looking for the opportunity to work closely with students in a group setting, or 1:1 mentoring?

Remedy Education are currently working with a school in Greenwich who are looking for a teaching assistant with experience working with students who require SEMH mentoring. The school are looking for a Male Teaching Assistant with experience in this field as you will be mentoring a group of boys. The school believe that learning is a lifelong activity and aim to encourage their students to develop a love of education and help all students' progress throughout their school career. Remedy Education works closely with its schools and takes a consultancy position when it comes to recruitment. As a teaching assistant, you will be supporting students with Social, Emotional, mental health and behavioural needs, so building a strong and supportive relationship with students is a key aspect of this role. The SEN department are hoping for you to run small group interventions, as well as 1:1 learning, keeping students on track to help them make good progress throughout their lessons. You will be a role model to students, someone who exhibits patience and kindness towards them, while also understanding how each student requires support when their behaviour becomes challenging towards staff or other students.

About you:

  • A calm, kind and dedicated approach to students is required
  • You will be able to use your own initiative as you will be working alone with single students or small groups, with support from the SENCO and SLT
  • Good communication is essential, as you will be working closely with classroom teachers, the SENCO, Parents and possibly outside agencies.
  • Have a good understanding of how students learn, and how to handle challenging behaviours and situations presented to you
  • Experience in a similar role would be advantageous.
