Science Teacher - SEN School

Location: Chingford
Start Date: ASAP or September 2025
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: MPS/UPS + SEN Allowance (dependent on experience)


About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and adaptable Science Teacher to join a dedicated team at our special educational needs (SEN) school in Chingford, supporting students aged 6 -16 with a primary focus on visual impairment, as well as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and ADHD.

This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a setting where science is taught in creative, sensory-informed ways that meet individual learning needs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and accessible science lessons tailored to students with a range of SEN, particularly those with visual impairment

  • Work closely with specialist staff, including VI teachers and support assistants, to adapt resources and learning strategies

  • Contribute to EHCP reviews, planning, and monitoring of student progress

  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and encouraging classroom environment

  • Participate in whole-school SEN training and development


Candidate Requirements

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience or strong interest in teaching pupils with SEN, particularly ASD, ADHD, or visual impairment

  • Ability to differentiate lessons and adapt teaching for individual needs

  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills

  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a special school or SEN setting

  • Knowledge of accessible formats (e.g. large print, tactile diagrams)

  • Familiarity with or interest in Braille (training provided if not experienced)
