Job description

Heads of House should ensure that school policies are applied, regularly reviewed and developed within the work of their year teams.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTION

The Head of House's principal responsibility is to ensure each pupil's entitlement to Care and Guidance through the leadership and management of colleagues in the effective delivery of the Guidance and PSCHE programme. They will be expected, by personal example, to provide motivation and enthusiasm in setting and maintaining the highest standards to achieve success with all pupils. The care and guidance of all pupils within the House.

CARE AND GUIDANCE

  1. Ensuring that all pupils are known and valued as individuals and that they know they are valued as individual.
  2. Liaison with the Head of Learning Support in order to support pupils with special needs.
  3. Advising and supporting colleagues over disciplinary and organisational issues.
  4. Organisation and leading of House assemblies.
  5. Attending Guidance meetings to represent and ensure that the views of the House team and the needs of the pupils in the House are represented and understood.
  6. To ensure that the school aims and objectives are met and the school ethos is maintained and enhanced.
  7. To take a strategic role to ensure that the needs of the students are met

COMMUNICATION

  1. Liaison with parents of pupils in the House and informing them of issues, successes, and general
  2. progress, and encouraging parental involvement.
  3. Liaison with staff on matters relating to pupils to support pupils' progress.
  4. Development, implementation and monitoring the school's Pupil Diary system.
  5. Liaison with outside agencies.
  6. Organise regular meetings of the year House team
  7. Ensure that the House team has an effective system for identifying INSET needs for incorporation
  8. in the School Staff Development Plan and take positive steps to meet those needs.
  9. Support the work of the School Council.

BEHAVIOUR

  1. Management of behaviour problems and behaviour modification of pupils within the year group
  2. liaison with the other staff (e.g. Head of Department, Head of Learning Support) in order to put
  3. suitable strategies in place.
  4. JD - Head of House
  5. Monitoring the behaviour, attendance and dress of pupils on a regular basis, taking remedial action
  6. where necessary.

REWARDS AND CELEBRATION

  1. Sharing in the development and implementation of the school's system of reporting and Progress
  2. File in collaboration with the Assistant Head teacher.
  3. Ensuring that detailed schemes of work are in place for the delivery of PSCHE; taking a lead in its
  4. delivery and monitoring its effectiveness.

DATA AND MENTORING

  1. Monitoring and supporting pupils' progress.
  2. Maintenance, monitoring and evaluation of pupil records to build detailed profiles of each pupil.
  3. Organisation of Parents' Evening.
  4. Assist in the development of the pupil mentoring system.
  5. Identify pupils in need of intervention. Set up and evaluate the effect of appropriate programmes.
