Job description

This role is to be based in the Housing Department and will be for a Social Worker to work with families who have no rights to Public Funds or Services. The role will be;

  • To investigate complaints of alleged neglect, abuse or ill treatment of children, undertake assessments and where appropriate arrange accommodation for children and young people.
  • To assess Children and their Families who may require a Social Work service and investigate reports that children are suffering or are likely to suffer harm.
  • To draw up plans with and for individual children and their families (including plans for service provision to children in need, plans for protection of children, and care plans for looked after children).
  • To undertake preventative work with families in order to reduce the need for care or accommodation.
  • To work with children and young people, families, carers and communities to help them make informed decisions, enabling them to clarify and express their needs and contribute to service planning
  • To work closely with colleagues across the Council and external agencies in order to gather information relevant to assessment and care planning activities.
  • To make recommendations to the Team Leader and others about the need for legal action in respect of a child and about use of resources.
  • To act as named keyworker and implement agreed plans for the protection of children, care of children and service provision and to monitor and review those plans.
  • To maintain and update case notes and other records, as required
  • To attend court and give evidence in relation to care proceedings.
  • To carry out these duties in accordance with legal requirements and procedures, and advise managers in advance where this is likely to be difficult to achieve.
