Job description

Qualified Social Worker - Somerset County Council - Family Safeguarding Team - Up to £35ph!

We are looking for experienced social workers to work in our two Family Safeguarding Teams to cover secondment positions and vacancies. As part of Family Solutions Somerset, we have adopted the Family Safeguarding approach which means social workers will work alongside specialist adult-focused practitioners - a domestic abuse worker, a substance abuse worker and a mental health worker - to support the children and families in our area. We work in a strengths based way, using motivational interviewing skills, alongside children and families with child in need plans, child protection plans, within PLO and within court proceedings.

Social workers within our Family Safeguarding teams are supported by permanent team managers and friendly and supportive teams. Social workers hold manageable and varied case loads, working with families with hidden harm factors (domestic abuse, alcohol and drug abuse and adult mental health difficulties) to promote children and young people to stay within their families where possible. Somerset are also piloting the Family Drug and Alcohol Court to further support families within proceedings. Working alongside specialist adult practitioners, social workers will engage in group case supervision and multi professional learning and reflection. Case recording is captured within a Family Workbook, which supports purposeful and analytical recording. Social workers are supported by additional resources available, such as our Family Group Conferencing service, to engage with the wider family and support families to use their own resources.

Social workers will participate in a duty rota, alongside managing their allocated work. Somerset are supportive of social workers working flexibly, balancing working from home with visiting the families with whom they are working and completing direct work in person. Social workers have the option to work a 9 day fortnight to support a positive work-life balance.

Locum social workers are supported and actively encouraged to engage with training and learning opportunities, including our weekly CPD sessions with our CSWs, and are very much a part of our team!
