Job description

This role will be in the South West Adoption Assessment Team, covering some of the 10 Local Authorities that we work with. The role will include delivering training to prospective adopters, assessing prospective adopters, presenting those assessments and prospective parents at panel, helping them with matching children and supporting them through their adoption journey.

You will be assessing prospective adopters who are based in and around South London and more likely in the Sout West London boroughs such as Sutton, Achieving for Children, Merton, Croydon.

You will be working on various projects and helping to deliver support groups and training for our families and wider as part of Adopt London strategies.

A priority for ALS and the LAs is to reduce delay for children, particularly of Black and minoritised ethnic backgrounds, and especially boys who wait the longest for new families. ALS has strong links with the Black Adoption Project and New Families Social. There may be opportunities to work on pan London and other projects.

About you:

We are looking for experienced and committed social workers who are:

  • Qualified and have completed their ASYE, with over 3 years experience
  • Experienced in planning for permanence and interested in adoption
  • Skilled at building positive relationships with diverse families and professionals
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Experience of assessment and producing high quality and analytical assessments
  • Committed to anti-racist and inclusive practice, with a focus on reducing race disparity in adoption
  • Confident using Mosaic Case Management systems
  • Knowledgeable in childcare and adoption legislation and statutory guidance
  • Open to personal development and keen to develop group work and training skills
