Job description

Outreach Learning Support Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Outreach Learning Support Assistant to join a dynamic team in Chelmsford to help transform the lives of students who require tailored, off-site educational support.

About the role:

As an Outreach Learning Support Assistant, you will work directly with students who are unable to attend mainstream education due to a range of needs including social, emotional, mental health (SEMH) challenges, special educational needs (SEN), or other barriers to learning. Your role will involve delivering bespoke one-to-one or small group interventions in homes, community centres, or other agreed outreach locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with their learning, helping them access curriculum content at an appropriate level.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships to encourage engagement and confidence.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies to tailor support plans.
  • Maintain accurate records of progress, attendance, and behaviour.
  • Promote emotional wellbeing, resilience, and independence in students.

About You:

  • Experience working with children or young people with additional needs or challenging behaviours.
  • A calm, patient, and adaptable approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own schedule.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is often essential.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Youth Work, or equivalent) are desirable.
