Job description
Remedy Recruitment Group are currently seeking an experienced Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) to work within Reading Council.
Job Purpose
The post is a key post in ensuring that allegations against people who work with children are properly investigated and dealt with appropriately. The post will also involve some chairing of child protection conferences and reviews of children who are looked after by the local authority.
The post requires someone who can work independently, but also as part of at team of reviewing officers.
To lead on the operational management of concerns and allegations about people who work with children. To ensure that robust systems are in place to give prompt advice on allegation management thresholds. To manage and monitor the progress of cases, including through the chairing of Allegations Management Meetings.To maintain a contemporaneous recording during and at the conclusion of cases. And to ensure the conclusion of the concern or allegation is proportionate, fair and contributes to the safeguarding of all children.To ensure information and guidance regarding allegations against staff, carers and volunteers is kept up to date and in keeping with statutory guidance and good practice.
Essential Qualifications:
To hold a professional qualification in social work and be registered with the HCPC.
To have at least five years post qualifying experience in child protection work as a social worker and social work manager.
To demonstrate continuous post qualifying training and ideally have completed management training.
Essential knowledge, skills and experience:
Experience of managing concerns and allegations about people who work with children.
Substantial post qualifying experience in child protection, including as a manager within a statutory children's social care service.
Demonstrable ability to effectively manage complex child protection and safeguarding cases and issues. Experience of clear risk assessment and management in child protection.
