Job description

Computer Science / ICT Teacher - ASAP Start

Location: Muswell Hill, North London

Start Date: September 2024

Contract: Full-Time, Permanent

Are you a passionate and innovative Computer Science or ICT Teacher looking to make a real difference in the lives of Deaf students? Join the team at this lovely school for Deaf Children, a respected and thriving school with a rich history dating back to 1895 and a recent 'Good' Ofsted (Feb 2023) - now on a journey to Outstanding.

About The School

This school is a vibrant, sign bilingual school for Deaf children aged 3-16, offering an exciting, inclusive and nurturing environment across two sites:

  • Secondary (co-located with a school based in Muswell Hill)
  • Primary (co-located with Primary School based in Highgate)

Here, British Sign Language (BSL) is not just a subject - it's a vital and vibrant aspect of daily life, ensuring every student feels seen, heard, and supported.

From the most recent Ofsted:

"Pupils enjoy coming to this special school. They feel safe and they are happy… BSL is a vital and vibrant aspect of school life. Pupils and adults communicate throughout the day with humour and warmth." - Ofsted, 2023

The Role

We are seeking an outstanding ICT / Computer Science Teacher to deliver engaging and practical lessons to KS3 and KS4, with potential to support wider curriculum areas depending on your skillset.

  • Deliver KS3-KS4 ICT/Computer Science, including GCSE-level content
  • Plan and teach engaging, differentiated lessons using a sign bilingual approach
  • Foster students' confidence and independence in using technology for learning and life
  • Collaborate with a dedicated, experienced team of Deaf and hearing staff
  • Actively contribute to an inclusive, creative, and communicative learning environment

What The School Offers

  • Small class sizes with generous staffing support
  • PPA time above national requirements
  • Regular BSL training and CPD opportunities
  • Friendly, professional, and high-retention staff culture
  • Motivated, respectful, and delightful students
  • Strong parental and governor support
  • Full support towards gaining a Teacher of the Deaf (ToD) qualification if not already held

What We're Looking For

  • Experience teaching in secondary phase
  • Ability to engage and differentiate for learners with SEND
  • Strong knowledge of ICT / Computer Science curriculum
  • BSL knowledge or commitment to achieving at least BSL Level 3 (training supported)
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
  • A commitment to inclusive education and innovative teaching

A Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People (ToD) qualification is desirable but not essential - we are happy to fully support the right candidate in gaining this.

If you're an inspiring ICT or Computer Science teacher looking to join a truly special school where BSL, technology, and inclusion come together to change lives - we would love to hear from you.
