Job description

Remedy Recruitment Group are looking for a Housing Options Officers for a Local Authority in Bedford.

Job Purpose

To deliver an efficient and effective Housing Advice, Homelessness Prevention & Statutory Homelessness Assessment Service to meet the Council's targets and Statutory Homelessness duties.

Ensure a high quality housing advice service is given to Customers by responding effectively & efficiently to enquiries whilst prioritizing options for prevention of homelessness.

Maintain an on-going in-depth knowledge and understanding of relevant housing legislation and the Council's statutory duties and commitments in providing housing services to those who are, have been or are likely to become homeless.

Assist the Housing Solutions Team Leader to investigate, develop, implement and monitor policies and performance to ensure the continuous improvement of the Service including achieving value for money in respect of relevant Housing Service targets and performance Indicators

Liaise with relevant statutory, voluntary, private sector and other agencies including team members and other service areas, in order to provide tailored solutions to a customers identified housing needs.

Participate on a rota basis to provide an effective service for receiving and responding to homelessness applications out of normal office hours including participation in the Council's Emergency Planning Arrangements. An On Call allowance is payable for this (currently £740 pa).

Undertake enquiries including home visits where necessary to determine and notify to customers any statutory duties owed, in particular, duties arising from Part VII of the Housing Act 1996

Actively work to prevent incidents of homelessness where possible through the use of prevention toolkits including innovation that is approved by the Service Manager - Housing.

Efficiently manage a caseload ensuring that cases are prioritised to maintain a cost efficient service using initiative to provide appropriate outcomes for customers within available resources.

Create and maintain accurate and up to date records of clients details through both manual and IT recording systems in order to produce accurate statistical reports and returns. Monitor own performance targets and evidence thorough casework.

Assist in implementing, monitoring, and reviewing the effectiveness of initiatives developed under the Homelessness Strategy including taking responsibility for specific areas of work within the team as directed.

Work collaboratively with the Rehousing Officers in order to provide appropriate rehousing solutions for people in order to prevent homelessness or meet statutory housing duties.

Participate in and adhere to the Lone Worker Risk Assessment procedure.

Carry out the duties of the post with full regard to the Council's Policies and Procedures including, in particular, the following:

Financial Regulations

Carry out any other tasks as may reasonably be required by the Housing Options Manager, commensurate with the grade of the post.

You will need to be:

HCPC registered
