About the Role:
We are currently seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Food Technology Technician to join the vibrant and dynamic team at a leading senior school in Southwark, South East London. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with a passion for food technology and education to play a pivotal role in supporting the school's Food Technology department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Classroom Preparation: Assist in the preparation of materials, ingredients, and equipment for practical food technology lessons, ensuring all resources are ready and available for use by students and teaching staff.
- Lesson Support: Provide in-class support during practical lessons, helping students with the use of equipment and ingredients, ensuring a safe and productive learning environment.
- Maintenance: Regularly maintain and clean food technology equipment, including ovens, hobs, and small appliances, ensuring they are in safe working order. Report any faults or issues promptly.
- Inventory Management: Manage stock levels of ingredients and equipment, placing orders as necessary and ensuring budget adherence. Keep accurate records of inventory and expenditures.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including food hygiene standards. Conduct risk assessments and ensure that all activities are carried out safely.
- Student Support: Assist with the supervision of students during practical sessions, providing guidance and support as needed, and encouraging a positive learning experience.
- Administrative Duties: Undertake a range of administrative tasks such as photocopying, organising student work, and preparing teaching resources. Maintain accurate records of student progress and equipment use.
- Curriculum Support: Work closely with teaching staff to support the development and implementation of the food technology curriculum, contributing ideas and resources to enhance student learning.
About You:
The ideal candidate will have:
- A genuine interest in food technology and a passion for working with young people.
- Previous experience in a similar role within an educational setting is highly desirable.
- A good understanding of food hygiene and health & safety regulations.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- A proactive approach with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards.
- A Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene Certificate or willingness to obtain one.
Qualifications:
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths are essential.
- A relevant qualification in food technology or a related field is desirable.
