Our client, Barking & Dagenham are looking for a Fire Building Safety Specialist to join their team

Job Purpose

The primary purpose of the Fire and Building Safety Specialist is to ensure the safety and compliance of residential buildings within the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham (LBBD). This role is critical in fulfilling the requirements set forth by the Building Safety Act, Fire Safety Act, Fire Safety Order, and Building Safety Regulator. The specialist will act as the Accountable Person, responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of fire and building safety.

The Fire and Building Safety Specialist plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the well-being of residents and ensuring that LBBD meets its legal and regulatory obligations. This position is essential for maintaining high standards of safety and compliance within the borough's residential buildings.

Specific Accountabilities of the Role

  • The post holder will embed a dynamic, customer-centric and effective fire and building safety culture within the Assets Team. This includes supporting the implementation and monitoring of robust fire and building safety strategies and plans which reflect changing customer expectations, evolving legislation and best practice to support the delivery of the planned capital programme, cyclical maintenance and major projects.
  • Review all surveys, identify the key risks and ensure compliance through engagement with internal and external stakeholders to ensure risks are mitigated. Ensure that the building safety cases are updated with all relevant information.
  • Ensure all residential buildings comply with the Building Safety Act, Fire Safety Act, Fire Safety Order, and Building Safety Regulator requirements.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive building safety cases to the Building Safety Regulator
  • To effectively liaise with partnering contractors, specialist subcontractors and represent the organisation at meetings.
  • Budget management of all fire and building safety requirements.
  • Ensure that all necessary asset information and databases are routinely updated, and all information held on fire and building safety is accurate and readily available, including providing technical support and advice in relation to regulatory requirements to a range of audiences.
  • Ensure operational targets and objectives are achieved and regularly review individual contractor performance in terms of statutory & regulatory compliance, customer service, health and safety, quality, productivity and Value for Money.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety assessments, incidents, and compliance activities.
  • Prepare detailed reports for submission to regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders.
