Job description

Job Description:

Casework

  • Manage anallocatedcaseload appropriate totheextensive experience ofthe Experienced Social Worker,to include complex assessments of children,families and parenting and other work tomeet statutory requirements.
  • Work within Swindon Borough Council's policies,procedures andgoodpractice guidelinesin orderto meet the needs ofthe children and families allocated.
  • Work with children and young people, families, carers and communities to help them make informed decisions, engender change enabling them to clarify and express their needs, and contribute to serviceplanning.
  • Maintain up to date case notes and otherrecords, utilising relevantIT systems, and write reports, including courtreports, and give expert evidence in court.
  • Undertake specialist assessments,for your and other workers'cases,for court proceedings, including parenting and kinship assessments.
  • Ensure that casework is up todate, comprehensively written up, andmanaged within agreed timescales.
  • Ensure your manageris kept fully appraised of problems arising fromcases orwork load and to seek advice as and when necessary.
  • When working with families,to recognise monitor and assessrisk.
  • To ensure information aboutriskis escalated tomanagersin a timelymanner.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with service users and other professionals.
  • Model good practice helping to set the expectations for others.
  • Where appropriate act as the duty worker for the team responding toqueries and issues

Learning and development

  • Keepup to date with contemporary issuesin children'ssocial work including legislation and evidencebased practice and use thisto informworking practice.
  • Use supervision to reflect on cases, and putlearning into practice
  • Identify ownindividual learning needsin line with the requirements of the PCF for an experienced and advancedsocialworkpractitionerandattendrelevanttrainingand developmentopportunities. Lead professional
  • Liaise with colleaguesin own and other directorates andexternal agenciesto gatherinformation to inform assessmentandcareplanningactivities,jointlyplananddeliverinterventions.
  • Participatein complex planning andreviewing of cases of childrenin care, child protectionand support fostering/adoptionarrangements.
  • Provide constructive challenge to enhance practice,procedures and policies, promote innovation, and introduce new ways of working
  • Lead and monitor multi-agency actions and objectives.
  • Provide leadership and professional wisdom to colleagues and other professionals for working situations of high complexity
  • Act as a placement supervisor to students or mentor to NQSW in their ASYE year and act as a mentor to other staff.
  • Model and facilitate reflective and evidence-informed practice,contributing to the development of knowledge and promotion of excellence in the field
  • Carry out any other duties,commensurate with the post,as may be required for the efficient running of the service
