Job description

Wirral Council is looking for a Compliance and Safety Manager.

  • £550 per day (Could be negotiated).
  • Inside IR35.
  • Hybrid working 2/3 days in the office.

The post holder is the lead and responsible person for all statutory duties, obligations, official standards, and to ensure best practice are met in respects of Gas Servicing, Legionella, Asbestos, Electrical and other key mechanical services. They have accountability for ensuring the safety of colleagues, contractors, and residents for compliance with health & safety legislation and landlord & tenant law relating to asset management.

  • To ensure the organisation complies with current health and safety legislation approved codes of practice and guidance in relation to its assets.
  • Support colleagues at an operational and management level to proactively establish and maintain systems that promote a culture of safe working practices across the organisation.
  • Advise the senior management team on the implications of current and emerging health and safety legislation, including evaluating options, making recommendations, and generating action plans to ensure compliance across your area of responsibility.
  • Conduct audits and inspections across the portfolio to ensure compliance with council policies and procedures, as well as legislation, and support the successful implementation of corrective and or preventive actions.
  • Lead on the provision of health and safety training, information, instruction and advice and guidance.
  • Provide information, advice, and guidance to colleagues across the council in matters relating to statutory compliance and health and safety.
  • Undertake reviews of health and safety documentation, such as risk assessments as and when required.
  • Deal with health and safety enquiries from internal and external sources to advise on effective solutions.
  • Carry out health, safety and compliance audits across the organisation, report on findings and support with improvement plans were necessary.
  • Encourage ownership and team spirit across all areas of the portfolio and foster a 'work together' environment ensuring flexibility and co-coordination to enhance the total staff resource.
  • Working as part of the wider team, support with the gathering of information to develop the annual revenue and capital budgets both assets across the Estate.
  • Leadership support for the assets compliance team and manage and monitor their workload and performance on a day-to-day basis.
