Job description

  1. To support the Chief Solicitor to provide a comprehensive, efficient and effective legal services to the Council.
  1. To carry out research and advise on all aspects of local government law and practice, with supervision.
  1. To assist in the preparation of legal proceedings including drafting applications and preparing and maintain associated paperwork.
  1. To attend court, tribunals and other meetings in order to observe proceedings, make records and ensure that the local authority carries out its duties in respect of the same.
  1. To comply with the Service's objectives in relation to the achievement and maintenance of Practice Management Standards
  1. To assist the Chief Solicitor and Assistant Chief Solicitor in developing the use of Iken, the implementation of Service Level Agreements and effective procedures and reporting processes on the performance of the legal work within the post holders area of responsibility.
  1. To undertake such other tasks commensurate with the post holder's experience and qualifications as may be allocated from time to time by the Chief Solicitor and/or Assistant Chief Solicitor.
  1. To conduct a caseload of legal proceedings with the supervision and oversight of senior solicitors and specifically in the area of law relating to child care/protection.
  1. To study and work towards obtaining a formal legal qualification by way of undertaking the formal academic stage of training towards qualification as a solicitor or fellow of the institute of legal executives.
  1. To maintain a record of all training and development undertaken and to adhere to all rules of procedure and codes of conduct laid down by relevant governing professional bodies.
  1. At all times to follow the requirements and obligations of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act and the specific Health and Safety Guidelines produced by the Council.
  1. At all times to observe and follow both the spirit of and specific obligations placed upon all staff by the Council's Equal Opportunities Policy.
