Job description

Our client Blackburn and Darwen Council is looking for a SOCIAL WORKER to join their Adoption Team.

Blackburn with Darwen Council Children's Services require a qualified experienced social worker to work part time (3 days per week) in our Regional Adoption Agency, Adoption Now, to cover sickness, starting as soon as possible. The role is specifically with our Adoption Support Service.

The candidate will ideally have experience in working with looked after children, within a Local Authority Adoption Service with children who have a care plan of adoption.
The role is to support adoptive families through our core offer of support services, such as support groups, training workshops, providing support through our daily duty service, undertaking assessments of need, completing adoption support plans based on assessed needs, working with therapeutic providers and the Adoption Support Fund, supporting the letterbox service, supporting families through early placement and working closely with our recruitment and care planning teams.

The candidate must ideally have at least 2 or 3 years post qualification experience and worked in statutory front line social work services. Therapeutic qualifications/skills would be desirable but not essential. Rate will be determined depending on experience


Good I.T. skills and experience in the use of Protocol LCS system are preferable. The candidate must have good, preferably continuous, references and be registered with Social Work England and be able to show evidence of professional development. You must be a car driver and have access to a car and be insured for business purposes.

We provide friendly and accessible managerial support in a modern office environment with modern I.T. technology, including use of Skype and Microsoft Teams.


Our Adoption Support Service is mainly based within our Hub in Bolton, however, due to Covid-19, there remain some working from home arrangements which will be explained in more detail at interview.

Essential requirements:

  • Degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification
  • Registration with Social Work England
  • ASYE completed
