Job description
Behaviour Teaching Assistant (SEN) - Tower Hamlets
£90-£105 per day (PAYE) | Full-Time | Term-Time Only | Long-Term
Some students find school overwhelming. Noise, routines, expectations, social situations - it can all build up, especially for young people with special educational needs. When that pressure spills over into behaviour, they don't need punishment - they need understanding and support.
We're working with a secondary school in Tower Hamlets who are looking for an SEN Behaviour Teaching Assistant to support pupils with SEMH, autism, ADHD and emotional regulation needs. This is a hands-on role for someone who can stay calm, consistent and supportive, even on the tough days.
What you'll be doing:
Supporting SEN pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups
Helping students manage emotions, transitions and challenging moments
Using de-escalation and positive behaviour strategies to keep students safe and settled
Supporting pupils to re-engage with learning after incidents
Working closely with the SENCO, pastoral team and teaching staff
Building trusting relationships through consistency and clear boundaries
Recognising progress and effort, not just outcomes
This role could be right for you if you:
Have experience supporting young people with SEN or behavioural needs
Understand that behaviour is often a form of communication
Can balance empathy with firm, fair boundaries
Stay patient and level-headed when situations escalate
Are committed to helping vulnerable students feel understood and supported
This role isn't about controlling behaviour - it's about supporting students to regulate, communicate, and succeed in school.
If that sounds like the kind of work you'd find rewarding, we'd love to hear from you.
