About the Role:

As an Autism Support Worker, you will work closely with children with ASD to support their learning, development, and emotional well-being within the school environment. This is a hands-on, rewarding role that requires patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to supporting children with special needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for children with ASD.

  • Support students with communication, social, and behavioural challenges in a positive and nurturing manner.
  • Encourage participation in classroom activities and promote inclusion within the school setting.
  • Help children to build independence and self-confidence.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to ensure each child's needs are met.
  • Monitor and record children's progress, providing feedback to parents and staff as required.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of the children at all times.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with Autism or special educational needs (SEN).
  • Knowledge and understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and how it affects children's learning and behaviour.
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting children.
  • Ability to adapt and modify teaching methods to suit individual needs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Team player with the ability to collaborate with colleagues and external professionals.
  • A flexible and positive attitude, with a passion for supporting children with special needs.
  • A relevant qualification in Education, Health, or Social Care (e.g., Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent) is desirable but not essential.
