Job Description:

As a Senior Practitioner within the Youth Justice service you will have proven and extensive experience of encompassing the two main areas of the role.

1) An understanding of how Courts work and knowledge of relevant Youth Justice legislation, including sentencing and bail/remand.

2) support and development of peers with reference to court work The post holder will be the lead officer representing Kingston and Richmond at Youth and Crown court and liaising with other courts for all hearings relating to Richmond and Kingston young people. Where bail is being denied or opposed you will undertake assessments of risk to see whether these risks can be reduced by appropriate bail/remand conditions. You will be responsible for obtaining, collating and submitting reports , bail applications required by the court and ensuring all court results are fully recorded and circulated to the appropriate staff/agencies. You will take the lead role in covering Saturday court duty, which is shared with two other boroughs and managed on a rota.

2 The post holder will also be responsible for a small caseload of young people who have been bailed with a package of support, remanded or sentenced by the court ensuring that a holistic assessment of need supports a robust intervention. About you: our role specification Qualifications ? Educated at level 4 or above professional qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g Children and Youth, Social Care, Probation ) ? Evidence of continuing professional development within Youth Justice Skills and experience ? Experience and understanding of how Courts work and of knowledge of relevant Youth Justice legislation, including sentencing and bail/remand. ? Experience of liaising with court personal, family defence lawyers, magistrates/judges, legal advisors, CPS ? Experience of quality assurance of court documents to ensure confidence in the YJS court work ? Experience of effective partnership working and working within a multidisciplinary team. ? Experience of working with children, young people and families with offending behaviour ? Ability to write clear and concise court reports, bail packages, panel reports ? Ability to work restoratively with all children, young people and victims of crime in line with the service restorative approach principles and standards ? Experience of effective management of a caseload of young people in accordance with local policies/procedure and Youth Justice National Standards, and accurate recording. ? Skilled at undertaking timely, high quality, robust assessments (AssetPlus) and plans. ? Experience of risk management, public protection and safeguarding in the context of youth offending and contextual safeguarding. ? Experience of delivering effective interventions that reduce risk, reduce likelihood of reoffending and maximise positive outcomes for young people. ? Good knowledge and understanding of the Youth Justice landscape, including best practice in regard to Good Lives Model, Desistance Theory, Trauma Informed Practice and Transitions Personal attributes ?
