SEN Teaching Assistant, Performing Arts - Enfield - SEN School - September 2020

I am currently working alongside one of my outstanding clients who is looking to recruit a SEN Teaching Assistant who also has experience in leading Dance/Performing Arts sessions.

Their new site which has recently been refurbished will provide a great opportunity to capitalise on the use of technology within the arts. Catering for students from 11 - 14 years, our key focus is to provide exciting, inclusive and personalised learning opportunities, through which our young people can become equipped with the life skills needed in order to become confident and independent individuals.

As part of this exciting development my client are looking for an enthusiastic, versatile and motivated support assistant able to help us to deliver high quality teaching and learning across key stages 3, 4 and Post 16 to small groups of secondary aged pupils with a number of different SEN needs.

  • Full Time: 8:30am to 3:30pm
  • Long Term supply contract
  • £80 - £90 per day depending on experience

Main responsibilities:

  • To liaise with the teacher to ascertain where assistance in class is needed
  • To assist the teacher with the preparation of teaching aids and equipment
  • To prepare areas for activities and to work with the teacher and pupils to ensure that equipment is stored away appropriately
  • To work in a group setting or take a particular pupil in a one to one setting under the direction and guidance of a teacher
  • To respond positively to the physical and emotional needs of the pupils within the school
  • To reinforce the standards and expectations that exist within the Aims of Alfriston School
  • If appropriate, assist in transporting or supervising pupils to off site educational activities
  • To represent the school in a positive manner

Candidate RequirementsL

Essential:

  • Knowledge and interest in the performing arts
  • Able to use ICT to support teaching and learning
  • Understanding of promoting positive relationships within the wider school community
  • Understanding equality and diversity issues and implications for policy and practice
  • Positive and friendly personality
  • Good organisational skills
  • Able to use initiative and work independently
  • Ability to relate to young people in a positive manner
  • Willingness to constructively challenge the work of self and others to continually improve own and team performance
  • To show loyalty and commitment to the school

Desirable:

  • Working in a mainstream or special school
  • Working with children with special needs
  • First aid certificate
  • Able to lead teams and individuals
