SEN Support Worker - Thurrock Essex - 10/15 hours a week (2/3 hours every morning)

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Support Worker to provide 1:1 support to a student with severe Special Educational Needs (SEN). The role focuses on developing and reinforcing life skills, independence, and social engagement. The student already has carers in place; therefore, this role is not personal care-based, but instead complements existing care provision by supporting learning, communication, and daily living skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support tailored to the student's individual needs, abilities, and interests
  • Support the development of life skills, such as:
  • Communication and social interaction
  • Emotional regulation and coping strategies
  • Daily routines and independence skills
  • Community awareness and appropriate behaviour
  • Encourage engagement in structured and meaningful activities
  • Support the student in following routines and transitions throughout sessions
  • Work collaboratively with carers, teachers, therapists, and other professionals to ensure a consistent approach
  • Observe, record, and report progress, challenges, and achievements
  • Promote a safe, calm, and positive environment at all times
  • Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and SEN best practice guidelines

Essential needs for the role:

  • SEN-related qualifications or training
  • Experience supporting life skills or independence programmes
  • Knowledge of conditions such as autism, learning disabilities, or communication needs
  • Experience working alongside carers or multidisciplinary teams

Additional Information

  • No personal care duties required
