Remedy Recruitment Group are currently seeking experienced Qualified Social Workers and Senior Social Workers to work within Newham Councils Childrens Assessment Team.

Job Purpose

As we move into the home straight of our improvement journey we are prioritising work/life balance for our staff.

As of October, Newham CYPS have restructured our Assessment service to ensure that caseloads reduce in the long term, and that social workers' overall workloads will decrease. Assessment Social Workers are not expected to work at the office as we are encouraging remote working around their visits and shifts on duty. We anticipate some positive news from our recent Ofsted monitoring visit and we are confident we're heading in the right direction - so joining us now could be a real asset to a social worker's CV if they stick it out until our next inspection.

What have we changed?

We have actually reduced the number of Assessment teams from 6 to 5 - but in reality, due to expanding each of the 5 teams, the number of SW/SSW posts in the service has increased to 42 from 36. Each team also now benefits from Assistant Team Manager in addition to their Team Manager. The service is assisted by two NQSWs, a Frontline student, and a dedicated Business Support Officer for each team.

Once we are at full complement, social workers will enjoy a greater work life balance and a reduced caseload from where caseloads currently sit - which varies greatly by team and SW/SSW. Most SWs currently have 18-20 cases (some strong SSWs do have considerably more, some less). We are looking to get the whole service operating at around 14/15. The key challenge for us right now is filling the new roles to enable this reduction to take effect.
