Job description

Qualified Social Worker - Somerset County Council - Assessment Team - Up to £35ph!

We are looking for an experienced social worker to work in our friendly and enthusiastic Assessment Team in Sedgemoor. The two assessment teams work together as one, and promote a supportive and inclusive environment whilst working to support children and families from referral into Children's Social Care. Undertaking Children and Families' Assessments, in a child focused, timely and strengths based way, is the primary focus within this team. Working under s17 or s47 of Children Act 1989, we look to engage families in a positive way, and work with them to develop strengths and protective factors, and reduce any identified risks or worries, using motivational interviewing skills. Social workers will need to work closely with other teams and agencies within, and outside of, the Sedgemoor area to assess and support children and families, to ensure they get the right support at the right time. Social workers are supported by additional resources available, such as our Family Group Conferencing service, to engage with the wider family and support families to use their own resources.

The team are supported by two full time managers, and participate in a duty system, alongside managing their allocated workload. Somerset are supportive of social workers working flexibly, balancing working from home with visiting the families with whom they are working and completing direct work in person. Social workers have the option to work a 9 day fortnight to support a positive work-life balance.

Locum social workers are supported and actively encouraged to engage with training and learning opportunities, including our weekly CPD sessions with our CSWs, and are very much a part of our team!
