We're working with a fantastic secondary school in Braintree who are seeking to appoint a permanent Head of Design and Technology to join their dynamic team from January 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate DT specialist looking to take the next step in their career or for a current Head of Department seeking a fresh challenge within a supportive and forward-thinking school environment.

The Role

As Head of Design and Technology, you'll be responsible for leading and developing a well-established department that offers a range of DT disciplines including Product Design, Resistant Materials, Graphics, and Food Technology.
You'll ensure high-quality teaching and learning across the department and inspire both students and staff to achieve excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the DT department, driving forward standards and progress.

• Plan and deliver engaging, creative lessons that promote innovation and problem-solving.

• Support and mentor departmental staff, ensuring continuous professional development.

• Oversee curriculum design, assessment, and resources across all DT subjects.

• Maintain a safe, well-organised learning environment in workshops and classrooms.

• Foster positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents to promote achievement and engagement.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - essential.

• Proven experience teaching Design & Technology at KS3-KS4 (KS5 desirable).

• Strong leadership and communication skills.

• A passion for inspiring creativity and practical learning among students.

• Excellent knowledge of the DT curriculum and current educational developments.
