Job Description

Families First (FF) Service provides an Early Help (EH) targeted (level 2b) intervention, which works with themes of parental domestic abuse, including young people perpetrating domestic abuse against their parents, family conflict, parental mental ill-health, young people with emotional well-being difficulties, parental substance misuse, school attendance issues, including school refusal, children at risk of exclusion or those who have already been excluded from school, including NEET young people, and young People at risk of exploitation in the community - appropriate to EH threshold. Referrals to Families First are received via MASH and the internal transfer process. Families First undertakes a Purposeful, Planned and Focused (PPF) systemic approach to our work, which is a core practice fundamental across Newham CYPS. As part of our improvement journey we have developed the Purposeful, Planned and Focused intervention model, a strength based systemic approach which enabled more opportunity for family focused direct work, enabling increased opportunity to work alongside families. The PPF model is a short term intervention service of up to 12 sessions. It is a time limited intervention completed within a 12 week period, whereby a Family Coach will work with the whole family to achieve positive outcome for child/children. There are three main phases to the PPF intervention model: Engagement and Motivation - Family Coach will focus on engagement with the whole family. They will start by learning about them and the key issues within the family. The aim is to build confidence in their ability to make changes and to better learn and understand family relationships. Behaviour Change - Family Coach will then work on developing new skills and strategies alongside family which will enable them to communicate differently with each other and address the challenges that brought them to the Families First Service. Independence - Family Coach will help family think about the skills to practice in the future if and when challenges appear again (relapse prevention). Support is given to apply new skills in different situations inside and outside of the home so that the family can be empowered to feel confident about maintaining the progress they have made. Families First delivers targeted Early Help broadly based on systemic ideas, and other evidenced based interventions such as Functional Family Therapy (FFT) and Multi Systemic Therapy (MST). We deliver whole family, purposeful, planned and focused interventions that are time-bound. We are seeking an energetic and experienced Coach, with some training / experience in systemic and relational thinking, and restorative approaches, with a professional or vocational qualification. We are seeking an individual able to engage, motivate, and collaboratively work with families, with complex needs. Ensuring that the child's voice and lived experience is central to assessment, planning and delivery, with ability to demonstrate improved and measurable outcomes. Skilled at identifying, assessing, and managing risk. Skilled at Coaching families through behaviour change strategies, that will encourage a more hopeful and strengths based narrative. Excellent communication skills that will foster effective multi-agency collaboration. Excellent time management skills, and ability to juggle competing priorities. Ability to write a quality assessment, and with a high standard of recording skills. Ability to work to timescales. Insightful around the needs of children, young people, and families living in a diverse, urban community. An individual who espouses Newham's HEART values; Honesty, Equality, Ambition, Respect, and Together, demonstrable through their behaviours.
