Maths and English Intervention

One of our established Secondary schools is looking for an experienced, caring Learning Mentor to join their team Immediately This is a full-time position 8:30-4pm Monday - Friday. This role is ideal for anyone looking to play an important role in vulnerable children's lives, who is able to understand and adapt to individual children's complex emotional and physical needs.

Responsibilities (not limited to):

  • 1:1 intervention with SEN children
  • Assisting class teacher and SENCO to prepare, plan and undertake the class
  • Assisting SEN children during class and playtime
  • Supporting children with social, emotional, mental health and behavioural needs
  • Liaising with parents/guardians for the best possible learning outcome for their children
  • Assisting Students with Maths and English
  • Set high expectations of the children and be a positive role model

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS (Essential Requirements)

  • At least passes in GCSE core subjects (Maths, English, Science)
  • Relevant degree or TA qualification
  • Previous experience with SEN children
  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic knowledge of the Primary Curriculum
  • Great interpersonal skills with both children and adults
  • Energetic and motivating personality
  • Able to engage students through educational play
  • Good understanding of child development and learning processes

Desirable skills (not essential requirements)

  • Understanding of basic sign language/Makaton
  • Use of learning tools, such as flash cards etc
  • Previous experience as a SEN for Primary School children
  • Knowledge and experience supporting ASD, Downs Syndrome, Speech and Language, ADHD
  • Previous experience of planning classroom activities
