Remedy Recruitment Group are currently seeking an experienced Public Health Consultant to work for Sunderland City Council. This role can be worked remotely but there will be occasional office visits.

Job Purpose

1. Fulfil a generic Consultant in Public Health/ Consultant in Public Health Medicine role within Sunderland City Council. The post holder is therefore expected to be competent across all ten areas of specialist public health practice (see Section 9).
2. Deputise for the Director of Public Health, as required, and hold senior management responsibility within in the public health team.
3. Establish strong relationships within Sunderland City Council as well as strong partnership working with the Clinical Commissioning Group, key provider organisations and other key external bodies including Public Health England and NHS England.
4. Be able to cope with multiple and changing demands, and to meet tight deadlines. High levels of intellectual rigour, political awareness, negotiation, motivation skills and flexibility are required.
5. Deal with highly complex public health issues, advising officers and elected members within the council and the health and wellbeing board, making recommendations regarding services, patient care and the wider determinants of health.
6. Be able to understand other cultures, advise, challenge and advocate to enable effective working across organisational boundaries. The ability to influence without direct authority and demonstrate a high level of tact, diplomacy and leadership are required.
