Job Title: BSL Teaching Assistant

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join the team as a BSL Teaching Assistant at a Primary School based in Greenwich.

This Primary school is a reputable educational institution committed to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students. We are seeking a dedicated BSL Teaching Assistant to work alongside our teaching staff, assisting students with hearing impairments to achieve their full potential.

Responsibilities:

• Provide in-classroom support to students with hearing impairments, assisting them in understanding and following instructions.
• Facilitate effective communication between teachers and students by using British Sign Language (BSL) and other appropriate methods.
• Adapt classroom materials and resources to accommodate the needs of students with hearing impairments.
• Assist in the implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with hearing impairments.
• Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel supported and encouraged to participate.
• Collaborate with teachers and other educational professionals to develop and implement strategies for supporting students with hearing impairments.
• Monitor and record the progress of students, providing feedback to teachers and parents/guardians as required.
• Promote independence and self-advocacy skills among students with hearing impairments.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of students during classroom activities and school events.

Requirements:

• Fluent in British Sign Language (BSL) - minimum BSL Level 3 qualification required.
• Experience working with individuals with hearing impairments, preferably in an educational setting.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively convey information using BSL.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with special needs.
• Knowledge of different strategies and techniques for supporting students with hearing impairments.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and build positive relationships with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues.
• Commitment to always maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
• Relevant qualifications, such as a Teaching Assistant qualification or a degree in Education, would be an advantage.
