Job description

Braille Trained Teaching Assistant

South West London

ASAP Start

Remedy Education are pleased to be working with a large special needs school in Wandsworth. They are recruiting a teaching assistant with braille and visual impairment experience. This is a full-time ongoing position via the agency.

This outstanding multi-cultural school caters for a diverse group of 2-19-year olds, providing encouragement and a positive learning environment. Students have a range of needs including visual impairments, PMLD and complex needs. The schools area of expertise is a focus on sensory and physical disabilities, and they offer both pupils and staff all the right resources to succeed.

The shortlisted candidate must have experience supporting a visually impaired student and must be trained in using braille. You will work 1:1 and with small groups. As well as supporting students academically, you will also work to develop self-confidence and improve independence. Experience with audio technology, such as Jolly Phonics would be advantageous. As well as working with the class teacher, you will also work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team.

In return the school can offer a forward thinking and stable working environment.

To apply for this role, you must have:

  • Training in Braille
  • Experience with VI and PMLD
  • A current DBS
  • Full time availability

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. You will be required to apply for an Enhanced DBS if your current DBS is not on the update service.

Remedy Education is a committed Equal Opportunities Employer and therefore will not discriminate on the grounds of age, gender, race, ethnicity, disability, or sexual orientation.

If you are looking for a rewarding role in SEND and want to make difference, we want to hear from you! Please submit your CV today or you can contact Carly Walters at Remedy Education.
