Job description

On behalf of the local Authority, we have an exciting opportunity for a qualified teacher for visually impaired children and young people. This role is initially interim for 6 months however it is expected that this will lead to a permanent post within the team. This is ideally a full time position but we would consider part time for the right candidate if required. The post has flexible working. The role is primarily visiting settings and homes within the Borough however paperwork/admin can be completed at home or at the local authority site.

The post involves:
Providing peripatetic teaching support, training and advice to children and young people with a visual impairment, and their parents/carers and professionals across the Borough of Hounslow in homes, educational settings and special schools to enable them to access an inclusive education and thrive.

Conducting functional visual assessment to inform on the educational implications of visual impairment and to report to parents, teachers and other professionals the results of assessments.

You would be continuously promoting the well-being, self-esteem, and self-advocacy skills of children with a visual impairment.

For this role it is essential that applicants have the mandatory qualification for teaching vision impaired children and young people. Successful team-working experience and excellent inter-personal skills are essential.

Salary is based on TMS/UPS + TLR 2b and SEN 1
