Job Purpose

There is one specialist Substance Misuse Team for Richmond and Wandsworth, which will be based in Wandsworth Town Hall with a facility to hot desk at the Civic in Twickenham. The Team Manager will lead and manage this very complex and high-risk area of Social Work and ensure the team works in close partnership with Wandsworth Community Drug and Alcohol Service and Richmond Integrated Recovery Service.

The Team Manager supports the Service Manager by leading and managing the Substance Misuse Team, to provide a high quality, effective and efficient social care service to adults and their carers in Richmond/ Wandsworth. This role delivers leadership and professional supervision to the practitioners in the team to provide direction, oversee risk assessment and risk management, to maintain practice standards and promote continuous professional development. They also have shared accountability for a given budget.

The Team Manager must maintain an effective professional relationship with our key partners South London and Maudsley Mental Health Trust heading the Wandsworth Community Drug and Alcohol Service, and CGL (Change Grow Live) running the Richmond Integrated Recovery Service. This is critical to providing a seamless service and to managing the considerable risks involved in this area of Social Work. This involves delivering expert advice on safeguarding and training where required. This role also works with Commissioning to ensure the providers work to their agreed contracts.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  1. To ensure the team carries out its statutory functions under the Care Act 2014; including safeguarding adults at risk, prevention, information and advice, timely assessment, eligibility decision-making, care and support planning and review. To also ensure provision of specialist assessments where needed, such as Occupational Therapy, Sensory, Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty and Human Rights Act.
  1. To provide regular, formal professional supervision for practitioners within the team, being mindful of both Council's Policies and Procedures, legislation and Professional Standards.
  1. To provide leadership and direction for the team daily, ensuring a positive team culture and the provision of high quality, person-centred interventions and services, based on the chosen outcomes and aspirations of the adult or carer concerned.
  1. With the Service Manager to oversee the incoming work for the team, prioritising and managing risk and providing a timely response.
  1. To participate in quality assurance for the Division by undertaking regular case file audits and by ensuring that the learning from audits is taken on board by the individual concerned and the team.
  1. To participate in ensuring that the Council's resources are used to the best effect for adults and carers. This will include oversight of Care and Support Plans and reviews for the teams.
  1. To work in partnership with other Divisions and with external partners such as Health, the voluntary sector and private providers to promote a joined-up service for adults and their carers.
