Job description

Our client South Gloucestershire Council is looking for A Team Manager to join their Looked After Children team.

About the role

Under the direction of the Service Manager, the post holder will lead and manage a team that will provide social care services in Assess and Response, Social Care Long Term or Corporate Parenting (Transition to Independence, Looked After Children or Fostering and Adoption).

This could include one or more of the following specialist areas/services:

  • Ensuring vulnerable (including looked after) children and young people are identified, protected and supported to achieve positive outcomes through the provision of well planned, integrated and coordinated services;
  • The recruitment, support and training of foster carers and adopters, family finding and matching of children who need to be cared for outside of their family, court reporting in relation to step parent adoptions and special guardianship applications, joint assessments of private fostering arrangements.

The post holder will lead, manage and oversee the work of the team to ensure that vulnerable children are protected from significant harm, to work with children where there is risk of family breakdown, as well as working with children in care.

The post holder will also provide continuity of cover for other Team Leaders in their absence, and provide support and guidance to Senior Social Workers who may be deputising for Team Leaders.

Working in a multi-agency context, the post holder will promote effective partnerships with those providing preventative and/or specialist services in the public, private, community and voluntary sectors, as well as with children young people and their families, foster carers and adopters to achieve the best possible outcomes

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a highly competent and participative work environment through visible leadership providing management and professional supervision to a range of professional
  • Promote professional standards in the service area by developing outcome-focused teams that understand their contribution to the service and the wider success of the Council
  • Lead, develop, co-ordinate and support service planning, and the production of plans for service areas, including associated finance plans and integration with wider Council plans
  • Take responsibility for the management of cases within the relevant service area in accordance with the Safeguarding procedures for vulnerable people
  • Make a significant contribution to budget management and / or manage a significant budget. Monitor spending and ensure that accurate budgeting, reporting and any necessary corrective action is carried out.
  • Work with and influence partner organisations to maximise the effective provision and/or development of joint care services.
  • Manage and monitor quality and performance to ensure the effectiveness of service provision and the meeting of key performance measures. Ensure processes and procedures are produced, maintained and reviewed for specialist work across service areas
  • Identify and contribute to training and development strategies, and deliver professional supervision and expert advice to team members. Enhance the skills and performance of team members, to ensure the quality of service provision
  • Work in partnership to promote and co-ordinate initiatives and ensure that communication is effective and that information and good practice is shared and is in line with government policies and guidelines
  • Co-ordinate and prepare reports on complex issues ensuring that they meet Council timescales and guidelines and that there is a clear summary of issues, progress and implications.

Essential requirements:
* Degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification
* Registration with Social Work England
* ASYE completed
