Our Leicestershire county council is looking for a Senior Social Worker to join their Post order team.
Job description
- Provide emotional and practical support to Special Guardian's and adoptive parents
- Helping families adjust to new dynamics and challenges
- Offer advice on parenting strategies, especially for children with trauma or attachment needs
- Identify and reporting to any safeguarding concerns to the safeguarding teams (where appropriate attending conference and CiN meetings).
- Supporting children and their carers/parents to manage trauma, loss, identity, and attachment issues
- Refer to or coordinate therapeutic services (e.g., counselling, CAMHS, play therapy)
- Help families understand the impact of early experiences on behaviour
- Undertaking post-order assessments (e.g., for support services or funding like ASF)
- Evaluate the ongoing needs of the child and family
- Be part of a busy duty system and taking referrals.
- Advocate for families to access services such as education, health, or specialist support
- Liaise with schools, health professionals, and other agencies
- Ensure multi-agency working to meet the child's needs
- Supporting children to understand their life history and SGO/adoption journey
- Provide or update life story materials
- Offer training, workshops, or guidance on attachment, trauma-informed care, and therapeutic parenting - lead by a therapeutic social worker within the team.
- Attend and support coffee mornings for Special Guardian's.
- Support events for both SG's and adopted families.
- Build confidence and resilience to special guardian's and adopters
- To support the birth records counsellor in accessing and redacting birth files and sharing with adult adoptees as the need arises.
