Senior Planning Officer.

Remedy Recruitment are currently working in partnership with a local authority within East London and are currently seeking an Experienced Senior Planning Officer. This a fast pace exciting role that sits within the Housing Needs.

Salary- Negotiable

Main duties and responsibilities-

  • Take responsibility for resolving significant and complex strategic planning projects, planning applications and development consent orders from conception to conclusion
  • To lead the preparation of evidence and act for the Council as an expert planning witness in planning appeals including public inquiries, hearings and public examinations.
  • To lead and conclude negotiations on legal agreements which ensure the delivery of sustainable development in accordance with planning law, national and local planning policy, balance stakeholder and local community requirements and apply best practice.
  • Judge competing priorities, lead negotiations with and give definitive advice to all stakeholders in the planning process including, developers, professional agents, councillors, parish/town councils, service providers, other council officers, community organisations and members of the public on planning issues associated with significant and complex development projects and proposals.
  • Prepare reports and deliver presentations to councillors, senior officers, stakeholders and public meetings on planning issues associated with significant and complex development projects and proposals.
  • Develop, manage and maintain excellent working relationships with developers, professional agents, councillors, parish/town councils, service providers, other council officers, community organisations and members of the public and apply high levels of customer care practice towards maintaining those relationships.
  • Ensure continued professional development in line with corporate and RTPI requirements, recognising gaps in personal skill/knowledge base and (in consultation with line manager) identify appropriate training and development necessary for retaining the expert level of skill and knowledge required within the role.

Skills and Experience

  • Time Management - The position entails the completion of planning applications to meet the required deadlines, therefore the right individual must be able to demonstrate strong time management skills and an ability to work under pressure.
  • Development management and town planning experience essential.
  • Self-Motivation - The selected candidate must be highly motivated to succeed in their first full time position in planning and committed to delivering a quality service.
  • Excellent Communication - The role will require liaising with both external and internal parties, negotiating with applicants and agents and communicating effectively with other members of the team. Therefore, you will be required to demonstrate that you have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Analysis of Plans - Having completed a RTPI Certified Planning Course, you will be required to quickly develop the skills to analyse plans and assess their acceptability against Local, Regional and National Planning Policy.
  • Report Writing - The selected individual must possess the skills to write clear and concise planning reports, which provide a full and accurate analysis for the consideration of the line manager.
