Job description

Remedy Recruitment Group are currently seeking an experienced Qualified Social Worker to work within an Emergency Duty Team for a Childrens Social Services Team in East London.

Job Purpose

To provide an accountable emergency statutory Social Work service for children, young people, their families and other professionals across the Council and children looked after by the council who are living in another area. This may include giving advice and information as well as responding to calls from members of the public.

The children's Emergency Duty Team (EDT) social worker will work in accordance with the designated ROTA / shift pattern which covers the hours of 17:00 - 09:30 Monday to Friday and 24 hours on a weekend and / or bank holiday.

The EDT social worker will maintain strong links to the MASH and social work teams and ensure that relevant information is shared at the start of the next working day.

To undertake complex case work and care planning in situations which involve risk, complexity and the safety of the service user and others for all service user groups.

To work jointly with other agencies in assessing, planning and implementing safety plans.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Take part in a rota which will give the required level of duty cover for emergency referrals. This rota will include evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays throughout the year.
  • To prioritise referrals with regard to risk, urgency and statutory requirements, using the green, amber and red coding system
  • To ensure that a proper assessment of need is undertaken for all referrals and to ensure that appropriate action is taken where a service user's need is urgent.
  • To provide a social work service to children, young people and their families who are likely to be very vulnerable and have complex needs.
  • To ensure that all children who are accommodated into the care of the Local Authority or with family / friends are seen by the duty EDT social worker
  • To ensure children in the custody are seen or spoken to within two hours of EDT being contacted.
  • To ensure that a child receives an appropriate adult service within 2 hours of EDT being contacted.
  • To maintain case records on the Departmental IT systems and also carry out general administration relating to referrals and service users' records.
  • To contribute to and participate in the production of business management information as required from the EDT service.
  • To maintain good communication links with colleagues in locality teams, MASH and key/partner agencies who are involved with the child/service user.
  • To work with colleagues of the Contact Centre to provide an integrated service to service users and professionals who are in need of professional support and advice out of office hours.
  • To ensure that departmental and corporate policies and procedures are adhered to as appropriate.
  • To consult with Duty EDT Manager or relevant Senior Manager in accordance with the delegation of responsibilities and in cases where you feel it is appropriate to consult.
  • To attend team meetings, individual supervision and relevant training courses so as to maintain personal and professional development.
  • To contribute to the development of the EDT service to meet changing demands of the service.
  • To actively promote service user empowerment and practice in anti-discriminatory and non-judgemental manner at all times.
  • To undertake such other duties or training as may be reasonably required and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this post as determined by the EDT Manager(s).
