Newham Council are looking for a Principal Governance Lawyer to join the council.

What we need is more of a Lawyer picking up Governance work, we are really looking for a General Civil Litigation Lawyer who will work closely with me and also be able to pick up normal Civil Litigation case work too. I would remove the need to be a DMO if that helps - a good Principal Lawyer who has a good understanding of constitutional law too and working with MO Looking for a lawyer (Senior) who has a good grasp of DMO work and Corporate Governance work around constitutional complaints 1 To support the Monitoring Officers of Newham and Havering in the provision of all aspects of local government law and governance. 2 To act as Deputy Monitoring Officer in Newham and Havering providing advice directly to the Leader/Mayor, Cabinet, members, Chief Executives and senior management teams. 3 To provide strategic, high level legal and lead on legal solutions in local government law, public law, information law (including Investigatory Powers) and governance and related areas to enable the Councils to progress with corporate goals. 4 To work with the statutory officers and members in Newham and Havering to improve the governance of each authority. 5 To lead and manage a team in a shared back office support service. The team will include lawyers, legal officers and support staff, and the Team Leader will be responsible for the delivery of a portfolio of high quality, solution focused legal work in local government law, public law, information law (including Investigatory Powers) and governance and related areas across multiple sites, to customers in different organisations.
