Job description

Role purpose

1. The post is central to enabling the Council to meet national and local objectives in meeting and raising standards in professional practice. This will be through two key areas of responsibility:

2. The first is to develop and coordinate practice learning opportunities for students requiring a Local Authority placement across both the Adults and Children's Workforce. In Children's Social Care the post holder will take the leading role in coordinating the Social Work Professional Development Unit.

3. The second is to coordinate the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment programme (AYSE ), (and any other externally funded) scheme ensuring compliance with employment procedures and policy, pastoral care and guidance and, where appropriate, assessment of competence.

Core duties

1. Contribute to a strategic approach to meeting workforce development.
2. Ensure that learning and development for student social workers and NQSW is consistent with the Professional Capabilities Framework and 'Focussing on the Future: Approach to Children's Social Work'.
3. Develop and maintain effective partnership arrangements with HEIs, external trainers and training providers.
4. Collaborate effectively with HEIs to ensure up to date and professionally relevant delivery of local social work degree courses.
5. Liaise and coordinate the work between HEIs, students and practice educators.
6. Work in partnership with HEIs on student selection, design and delivery of the degree and provision of high quality placements.
7. Work with the Private, Voluntary and Independent Sector to develop and provide high quality placements for student social workers.
8. Provide professional support to practice educators, social work students on placement and NQSWs.
9. Deliver good quality training and development for student social workers and NQSWs.
10. Lead on the ASYE programme to ensure staff achieve competence as new practitioners.
11. Provide support for NQSWs in their first year in employment.


Key responsibilities
About you The Person
Are you:
* A qualified and HCPC registered social worker
* A qualified and experienced practice educator, with experience of coordinating practice learning and the ASYE programme
Do you:
* Have a good understanding of social work legislation, practice education, learning and development
* A good understanding and experience change management including cultural change
* Have sound Knowledge of Adult Learning Theories
* Understanding of the Training Cycle
* Solid experience of designing, delivering and commissioning training and development.
