Job description

Remedy Education are currently working with SEND schools in Lewisham, Lambeth and Southwark who are looking for an experienced, dedicated and pro-active Learning Support Assistant to join their team on a daily or long term basis. The position will be based with post 16 pupils in small classes supporting children with Hoist, Manual Handling needs Personal Care and challenging behaviour.

You will be working with students aged between 16 - 25, each with statements of Special Education Needs. Most of the young adults you will be working with have very limited communication skills, and some are completely non-verbal. You will be working 1:1 with a particular student but will also be required to support several children across the school.

Due to the needs of the students, the behaviour can be extremely challenging therefore you will need to have outstanding behaviour management skills and patience.

The duties will include:
PEG feeding
Changing the students
Feeding orally
Managing extreme challenging behaviour
Manual Handling

To be eligible to apply for this position, you will need to be available to start immediately, as well as being able to commit to working 8.30am - 4.30pm. You must have a good command of numeracy and literacy, as this is especially important when supporting pupils with limited communication skills.

Ideally, you will have the following experience:
PMLD experience
LSA or care experience
SEND experience
Experience in or willing to do personal care and manual handling
Experience with extreme challenging behaviour
